Result: 6 yes, 0 no, 1 abstention as not present. Vote passed. IANA media type for various Gentoo file formats =============================================== The motion was from mgorny to approve pursuing an IANA media type for various Gentoo file formats. As some additional context: mgorny has recently implemented support for various Gentoo file formats into file(1). During this work, mgorny noticed Gentoo did not have MIME types registered for its formats, and discovered that IANA has made it easier to register "official media types". mgorny noted that Debian has media types registered as well. Flow noted there's no downside to this (besides the work needed for registration) and can help Gentoo's visibility. mgorny plans to start with manifests, receive feedback on it, and then explore registering other formats (like ebuilds, eclasses, metadata.xml, and gpkg). Council discussed who the "controller" and "contact point" should be on the registration. mgorny is the contact point, which means questions are directed to him, but the Council is the controller. As controller, the Council will delegate to relevant projects as required. It was noted that being controller should not be a burden for Council as any changes to these specifications would reasonably need to be approved by council anyway. Motion: Approve mgorny's official request to IANA for a media type for official Gentoo file formats, with council@ as the "change controller" Result: 6 yes, 0 no, 1 abstention (not present in meeting). Motion passes. Open bugs with council participation ==================================== - Bug 835152 - "Mirror pkgcore/* repos from github" Council hadn't yet been un-CCed as agreed before, so agreed to do it now. - Bug 176186 - "Gentoo projects file hosting" Ditto. Open floor ========== - tamiko (proxying for dilfridge) asked how the "status update" is coming along that was requested from the Gentoo Foundation a while ago. ajak noted this has been discussed a bit with antarus (the Foundation president) after the 2022-06-12 meeting and antarus was unclear as to what was specifically wanted from the Foundation. ajak summarised the interaction as "yes it's a problem, but bandwidth is short and foundation isn't in the way of anything since council is the leading body anyway". antarus asked for a formal request on the gentoo-nfp/gentoo-project mailing lists from council to move forward because of the ambiguity. antarus repeated this at the end of the meeting. tamiko will relay the request to dilfridge to write a formal request. sam noted that discussion on the mailing lists may work better as robbat2, one of the trustees, is not usually available at the time of council meetings, so can access the discussion there. - sam noted that his recent agenda items which included references to the Council meeting being held on IRC had increased attendance and Council agreed to include these in future agendas to improve understanding of Council work & accessibility of Council meetings.
