Open floor Roll call ========= Present: arthurzam, dilfridge, mgorny, robbat2, sam, soap, ulm Constitute the new council ========================== - The council will hold its meetings on the 2nd Sunday of every month at 19:00 UTC. - Continue the last council's workflow considering sending a call for agenda items (two weeks in advance), sending the agenda (one week in advance) and have the meeting focussed, i.e. have major discussions on the gentoo-project mailing list prior to the meeting. - Meeting chairs: Jul/Aug Sep/Oct Nov/Dec Jan Feb Mar/Apr May/Jun ulm arthurzam mgorny robbat2 soap sam dilfridge - Contact information will be exchanged after the meeting GLEP 83 update ============== Some open questions about the envisaged timeline remain, so the discussion is being moved back to the mailing list. EAPI 7 deprecation ================== Motion: Deprecate EAPI 7. - Accepted unanimously. Discussion on leaving GitHub ============================ mgorny summarises the history: Gentoo originally went to GitHub because it was popular with contributors, but the overall impression is that the site has deteriorated since then. For example, the user interface is heavy on the browser, reviews via the UI are cumbersome, and AI (a.k.a. Copilot) is being pushed everywhere. Moreover, an increasing number of developers and contributors refuse to interact via GitHub. Therefore we consider moving our contribution mirrors to Codeberg, which is closer to free software principles, and its UI is similar to GitHub's old one. In the subsequent discussion, the following points were raised: - We should contact Codeberg first to confirm that they are comfortable with the extra load, as our repository is demanding on hosting. - Should a read-only copy of the Gentoo repository be kept on GitHub (and would it be possible to disable pull requests for it)? - Should contributions be accepted via both Codeberg and GitHub? There were concerns that we would have too many contribution channels, e.g. Bugzilla, mailing list, private mail, in addition to the above. - At this time, adding additional services to our own infrastructure is not considered a viable alternative. Motion: Officially contact Codeberg about the possibility of hosting the repo/gentoo mirror for the purpose of accepting contributions. - Accepted unanimously Foundation dissolution status ============================= - Trademark renewals have been filed; waiting for response from USPTO. - Awaiting SPI financial statements for April to June 2025. - Few recurring donors at SPI yet, but significant one-time donations. Remaining donors to the Foundation have been contacted by e-mail. - Next steps: Switch over all expenses to SPI; transfer balances and close accounts.
