Summary of Gentoo council meeting 2025-08-10 Agenda ====== 1. Roll call 2. Status of SPARC (32 bit) and HP/PA [1] 3. Open bugs with Council participation [2] 4. Open floor Roll call ========= Present: arthurzam, mgorny, robbat2, sam, soap, ulm Absent: dilfridge Status of SPARC (32 bit) and HP/PA ================================== Hardware for HP/PA is very old; SPARC is newer but very power-hungry. Consensus is to destable both architectures. Action item: Investigate whether stage3 could be built either in QEMU or as cross-build in catalyst. Motion: Demote hppa and sparc from stable to testing. - Accepted unanimously Open bugs with Council participation ==================================== * Bug 730200 "metadata/AUTHORS: inclusion of myself and prior employers that may own copyright" (robbat2), * Bug 959157 "Request for listing "Eli Schwartz" in metadata/AUTHORS": - No progress. * Bug 936211 "[Tracker] Gentoo Foundation dissolution": - robbat2 reports on requirements for closing the two Capital One accounts: Closing must be done by signatories in person at full branches, which exist only in few U.S. states. Some planning will be required to get signatories to a branch location. Bank account closure must occur before filing dissolution with New Mexico. - Action item: robbat2 will ask prometheanfire to phone Capital One for clarification. Open floor ========== mgorny raises concerns about the state of 32-bit arches in general, especially test regressions in Python packages. Transition to time64 (also fixing LFS) may help, but floating-point issues will remain.
